Professional Tree Felling Wirral

Our ultimate goal is preserve the health and vitality of our clients' trees but often there are times when a tree needs to be felled and removed. Tree felling is when we remove the entire tree to stump level, just above the ground, and we can employ one of two techniques to do this. These are 'straight felling' and 'sectional felling' and as experienced tree fellers we are skilled in both methods. Home and commercial tree removal clients will be walked though the different removal techniques and the one we use will depend on the area surrounding the tree.

Whether you're a domestic customer in need of felling a single tree, or you're looking for commercial tree removal with multiple trees to be removed from land or woodland, we would be happy to help. Our service follows a strict focus on security and safety and our tree fellers undertake high levels of planning with communication and customer service key to a successful project.

Tree and Stump Removal

The decision to undertake tree and stump removal belongs with our customers. Whether it is a domestic or commercial tree removal job, our staff will work alongside you to weigh up the options, estimate costs and to provide you with a free and no obligation quote. The most common reasons for removing a tree include:

  • Creating space for children to play
  • Getting a better surrounding view
  • Trees root system causing danger or disruption
  • Dead or diseased tree beyond saving
  • Obstructing building plans

TPOs and Licensing

When it comes to domestic or commercial tree removal, Wirral customers will not always have the power to decide to remove it, even if the tree sits on your property or land. Before any felling procedure, Wirral clients need to be sure that the tree is not protected by a  Tree Preservation Order or "TPO". If there is a TPO on your tree then it is illegal to intentionally damage or remove it. When hired for home or commercial tree removal we will help to liase with the local council to ascertain if a TPO is in place. If it is, we'll help you complete the Local Authority applications to seek permission if one is.

Another potential legal requirement before tree and stump removal can go ahead is to check that a licence is not required. This will apply if the tree is based outside of a private garden or for commercial tree removal. If so then a licence must be applied for and successfully issue ahead of any works.

Tree Felling Removal Methods

We are trained to provide the two core tree felling techniques - 'straight felling' and 'sectional felling'. Straight tree felling can only be undertaken if there is a large and unobstructed space around the entire tree site, because using this method the tree is made to actually fall to the ground in one go, in a controlled way. Therefore a lot of advance planning and safety and security checks are required before this process is undertaken. In Straight felling, a notch is cut out from the bottom of the trunk and this will determine the direction of the fall. Then we make a 'felling cut' and this causes the tree to fall, and as it does so it is directed to the ground in one go.

'Sectional felling' is the one we use most for in tree felling in Wirral to remove a tree bit by bit, because it's used when the tree is in a restricted or public place or close to buildings, roads or passersby.  Sectional felling is more time-intensive because it involves a skilled arborist from our team being harnessed to the tree, who safely cuts sections of the tree, and then these are lowered down to the ground using rigging and lowering techniques to avoid damage below. Sectional felling is very much the safest option for most cases for domestic customers and in public spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I need to have a tree removed, what's the next step?

For any tree felling project, the first step is to call us. We will send over a qualified and experienced tree surgeon for a free site visit to assess the tree and the surrounding areas and to learn about your needs. Our planning process will also include help with checking for TPOs in place and local license requirements if relevant.

  • What is the average cost to remove a tree in the UK?

The size of the tree, the location and how easy or hard it is to access it can influence the cost of removing it.

Although felling a tree can be a labour-intensive task, if it is damaged or diseased, compared to the financial and physical cost if the tree  were to fall 'accidentally' onto your or neighbouring properties or someone nearby, it's a price that has to be paid.

However, today the "average" tree removal cost in the UK is around £400 but can be anywhere between £150-£2500 depending namely the size and the location of the tree, and the amount of time, skill and specialist equipment it requires to fell the tree.

  • How do I get a quote for tree felling and removal?

Call us today to book in a free site visit and quote and we'll arrange for one of our team to visit you at a convenient time and discuss the options with you.

  • Can I remove a tree with a TPO or in a conservation area?

If your tree is protected by a preservation order it is usually only eligible for permission to be removed if it is dead or deemed to be unsafe. The tree will have to show absolutely no signs of growth or proven to be suffering from disease or decay and our certified arborists can help to provide the necessary documentation and liase with the local council.

If you live in a conservation area, you can get permission from the local council to remove certain trees, but if it is a very large tree is is likely that permission will not be granted to remove it.

  • What happens after a tree is felled?

Once your tree is felled there will be tree waste and also a stump left over. We provide a tree waste removal service and can quote separately for this. We will either wood chip the tree waste and take this away for you or leave it with you to use on future gardening projects.

With the remaining stump, we provide a grinding and removal service that can include grinding the stump down to ground level, or full tree and root removal Wirral customers make the decision between the services depending on their needs for the space afterwards.
